Our goal is to give travellers a quality, authentic experience based on responsible and sustainable tourism where visitors and local people can interact and exchange ideas.

Our team is comprised of some of the most experienced and skilled guides and drivers in the region. We employ only qualified local guides for visits of any town and drivers who have first hand knowledge of the terrain in which they move.

We specialize in desert travel offering in depth guided trips into the desert regions of Mali and Mauritania, Algeria and Niger; via camel or 4x4.

With us you are master of your trip. We offer a variety of suggested itineraries that can help you plan your trip. You can choose one of these or you can use them as a base to plan your own personalized trip from start to finish. Feel free to contact us during the planning process for more information.

Where you will find a refuge from the hustle of the city and indulge your passion for the Sahara.

We offer simple clean rooms, dormitory and camping options at affordable prices. The washrooms are spacious and regularly cleaned. The rooms and public spaces are swept and dusted daily. Unlike some budget options in the region we wash the sheets and towels after every guest.

What truly sets us apart from the other budget options in town is our commitment to the true Timbuktu-style of hospitality. At Sahara Passion you become a member of the family. You will never be pressured to take a guide that you don't want. We are more than willing to give advice and directions for free. You will be able to get outside the world of tourism and see and even experience the pace of life and culture of the real people. In short we make every effort to see that your stay is agreeable and stress free.

We are located near the north edge of town, far enough from downtown to be peaceful but close enough to be convenient. We are only a short stroll from the best dunes in the area at the intersection of various caravan routes. We are about 150 meters north of the Flamme de la Paix monument. Attention: please see the directions page as our location is off the map of most guide books.

To facilitate your relaxation, prospective guides and artisans are not permitted inside the premises unless invited by you; they are never allowed in guests' rooms.

We can arrange to have your laundry done for you or you may use our facilities to do your own washing.

We are willing to drop your postcards at the post office for you for that important postmark, we have a wide range of quality cards for you to select from if you need them.

We also have created a very accurate and detailed street map of Timbuktu (available for purchase at our guesthouse) that will permit you to find your own way about the town if you wish to discover it at your leisure with out the presence of a guide.

Breakfast is available on short notice, other meals can be had upon request.
